ॐ महाकाल्यै च विद्महे स्मशनवासिन्यै च धीमहि तन्नो काली प्रचोदयात्।
Kalika Pujan is a deeply spiritual ritual dedicated to Goddess Kali, the fierce and powerful form of the Divine Mother. Known as the destroyer of evil and the ultimate protector, Maa Kali symbolizes transformation, liberation, and divine justice. The Kalika Puja is performed to seek her blessings for courage, protection, spiritual awakening, and removing negative energies from life.
Worshiping Goddess Kali helps eliminate fear, ignorance, and negative influences.
Devotees gain strength, courage, and confidence to face life’s challenges.
Kali represents the destruction of ego and illusions, guiding devotees toward liberation (moksha).
The Goddess is known to bless her devotees with material and spiritual abundance.
You can start the preparation of Kalika Pujan by choosing an auspicious day. Usually, Kali Puja night (Diwali in Eastern India) or Amavasya (New Moon) are the recommended days for the puja. On the day of the Kalika Pujan, wake up early and clear the puja space to create a peaceful and sacred environment. After that place an idol of Maa Kali or an image of her at the center of the altar. Make sure to decorate with red and black flowers as these are sacred to her. The red Hibiscus flower is specially auspicious for this puja.
It is suggested to procure the following items for Goddess Kali and offer them to her during the puja: Flowers: Red hibiscus flowers are especially auspicious for Kali Puja. Food: Offer fruits, sweets, and a special bhog like khichdi or rice pudding. Clothing and Accessories: Present a red sari or other symbolic gifts. Other Items: Include turmeric, sindoor (vermillion), and betel leaves.
To invoke Maa Kali’s blessings, recite Kali Chalisa and chant some mantras like these: Om Krim Kalikayai Namah Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadrakali Kapalini.
An Aarti signifies your devotion to the Goddess. Perform aarti with a lit lamp or camphor while singing hymns dedicated to Kali. End the puja by offering prasad to the puja attendees.
Kali Puja Night: Celebrated during Diwali, especially in Bengal, Odisha, and Assam. Amavasya (New Moon Night): Considered the most powerful time for invoking Kali. Navratri: Special prayers to Goddess Kali are performed during these nine auspicious nights.
